Welcome Message from Rev’d Morna

From the August 2024 Magazine

Dear friends,

We have arrived in Finedon!

Having moved at the end of July, Becky and I, as well as our cats (Nellie and Maggie) and tortoise (Mother Julian) are beginning to settle into our new home. We are very much looking forward to meeting you all and, when things are tidier, welcoming you into our home.

To tell you a little about us, I was born in Scotland but raised in Derby, and I was a secondary school teacher in Religious Studies before being ordained in 2017. I also lived in Japan for four years after university, teaching English. Becky comes from Dorset and has an academic background. She works at the University of Leicester, supporting health and social care researchers nationally to secure funding. She’s also a Licensed Lay Minister. We both love tea and cake, cycling and going to the cinema, as well as the occasional cocktail (Becky) or glass of red wine/beer (me). I also have a passion for photography, and I sometimes run quiet days and retreats which combine photography and prayer.

I am really looking forward to getting started as the Vicar of Finedon, and I would love to see you at my licensing service on Wednesday 4th September from 7:30pm. I am also really excited to be training curates in the Diocese of Peterborough for the other half of my role. As a priest I consider my role to be journeying alongside you as a person of prayer; being present among you and within our community; and proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for us in this next chapter at St Mary the Virgin.

Grace and Peace,
Rev’d Morna Simpson
