Who’s Who

There is a huge team of us here at St Marys to make sure everything runs like clockwork. The team includes a verger, sides persons, and an army of volunteers.

In September 2024, we came out of interregnum and welcomed a new Vicar in Reverend Morna Simpson. Prior to that many of our regular services have been presided over by Father Stan and Father Peter both retired priests and members of our congregation. Their generosity throughout the past few years has been much appreciated.

The day to day running of the church is lead by Revd Morna and the Churchwardens, you can find out more about them below.

Incumbent of St Marys

Morna was born in Scotland, but raised in Derby. Prior to her ordination in 2017 she taught Religious Studies at Secondary School. She trained under the Diocese of Leicester and in 2020 moved to the Diocese of Peterborough where she took up her post as Rector within the Benefice of Yardley Hastings with Denton and Grendon with Castle Ashby and Whiston.

It was announced in April 2024 that Morna had accepted the invitation to become Vicar (half time) at St Mary the Virgin, Finedon and joined us on Wednesday 4th September 2024.

Morna loves tea and cake, cycling and going to the cinema, she also has a passion for photography, sometimes running quiet days and retreats which combine photography and prayer.

Rev’d Morna also serves as Curate Training Programme Officer with Assistant Vocations Officer at Bouverie Court in Northampton.

Assistant Priest

Rev’d Yvonne joined the ministry team at St Mary’s in January 2026 following a short term calling to St Mary’s, Higham Ferrers.

A former Church Army Evangelist and pioneer priest, Yvonne comes to St Mary’s, Finedon with a focus on community engagement and strengthening our work with young people within the parish.

Yvonne is passionate about creating an environment where people can encounter God in their everyday life. It is a joy to have her as part of the team.

Yvonne leads our monthly Holy Ground services as well supporting our weekly services of Holy Communion.

If you see her out and about, with or without her dog, be sure to say hello.
