Whilst it may not seem like last Christmas was too long ago for some. it certainly feels for us like it has crept up on us.
This Advent and Christmas season will be Rev Morna’s first here in Finedon, but that does not mean we are taking it slow. Behind the scenes we have been working to put together a packed season of services and events.
We are excited to be joining with churches up and down the country in adopting the Church of England’s seasonal campaign “Follow the Star: Calm and Bright”. The CofE have used the Follow the Star message over the last few years with “The Great Invitation” and “Join the Song” with this years “Calm and Bright” reflections being drawn from the lyrics of the well known carol Silent Night.
Silent night! Holy night!
All is calm, all is bright
’Round yon virgin mother and child!
Holy infant, so tender and mild
Sleep in heavenly peace
sleep in heavenly peace
We are taking this Advent season as a chance to welcome people into church to take a moment of calm and reflection outside of the hustle and bustle of the Christmas period. As we once again celebrate the birth of Christ and approach the new year we turn to consider the bright prospects ahead.
As with previous years our advent season kicks off with our annual Christmas Tree Festival and Rushden Town Band Concert. Is there anything more Christmassy than trees and a brass band?
This years Tree Festival embraces the theme “Christmas on Stage” and we can’t wait to see a church filled with trees decorated to that theme. Whether it be a play, a panto, a ballet or musical everyone who attends has the chance to vote for their favourite. Which one will you choose?
On the first of December St Mary’s will be hosting an Advent Carol Service in place of our usual monthly evensong service, fear not our choir will still be joined by visiting singers from across the deanery for this service.
There are so many more services and events throughout the season which we are excited to welcome you to, whether it is your first Christmas celebrating with us or we are lucky enough to be part of your family tradition. St Mary’s looks forward to having you visit.
One event of note, is that this year we will be participating in the Finedon Town Christmas Fayre in Banks Park. Why not come meet the team, take part in some Christmas crafts, hear more about our Advent programme and perhaps listen to a handbell performance.
