Earlier this autumn a team formed within our congregation to take assemblies into Finedon Mulso Junior School as part of the Bible Societies “Open the Book” programme which is “an exciting storytelling project where Bible stories are shared with children in a way that is fun, interactive and memorable”.
The group is led by Pete Grindrod part of our team of servers and a schools consultant for the diocese.
After weeks of planning the time finally came for the groups first outing, and what better time of year to start than during Advent, when all the children at the school are excited in the build up to Christmas. The resources used was based on the book “The Shiny Bright Sparkling Light” written by Dai Woolridge and illustrated by Kristina Abbott.
Complete with puppets and props the team did an amazing job, with pupils at the school really leaning in to moments of audience participation and taking in the story of the nativity from a new perspective, that of the star!
