Christian Aid Week 2024

From the May 2024 Magazine

Each year we are reminded to spend time thinking about others who need our help. Help to access healthcare and education, be resilient against disasters such as drought, hurricanes and climate change and be able to earn a living by selling what they grow or make.

This year we learn about Aline from Burundi, East Africa, a young woman who suffered abuse and violence from an early marriage. Separated from her children, she found herself on the streets, searching each day for work to be able to buy food to feed herself.

Burundi is one of the poorest countries in the world and approx 70% of the population suffers with malnourishment and poverty. But with help from people like us, Christian Aid can train communities like Alines, to form a Village Saving and Loans Association (VSLA) that supports them to grow food, buy medicines and improve where they live.

If you are able to support this work we will be holding a coffee morning with our friends at the Independent Wesleyan Chapel on Saturday 11th May 10-12noon. By donating cake or simply supporting the Coffee Morning you will be helping to bring hope to people like Aline.
There are a number of ways to donate.
