As if 2020 could not get any more alarming we’ve watched all week the cities of the United States of America in flames following the death of George Floyd, asphyxiated after he was arrested and a police officer knelt on his neck. The officer involved is facing charges and it remains to be seen what a court makes of that. Public opinion has been quicker and clearer in making a judgment and the Black Lives Matter movement has turned out a huge showing of support from across all sorts of different communities, activist groups, students, politicians on both sides of the aisle, the Amish, and even police officers themselves, all taking the knee, as it is called, in acknowledgment of the pain and rage of so many black Americans who feel routinely abused by a system stacked against them.
